First look
Callaway Quantum Mini Spinner first look: a 7-wood built to stop
Callaway's Mini Spinner trades a few yards for extra spin and softer landings. How the compact, deep-faced woods add spin, who should try one, and what they cost in the UK and US.
Callaway says its Quantum Mini Spinner, a compact, deep-faced 7-, 9- and 11-wood, spins noticeably more than its standard Quantum fairway, so long approaches land softly.
According to Golf Post, the club grew out of a request from Japan’s Yuna Nishimura, who wanted a 7-wood that would stop like her 5-iron. Nishimura has just won the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship for her first LPGA Tour title. We could not confirm which fairway woods were in her bag that week.
A higher centre of gravity, on purpose
Most modern woods push weight low to launch the ball high with less spin. Callaway wanted the opposite.
- A higher centre of gravity. On the 7- and 9-wood, Callaway pairs a steel crown with a lightweight carbon sole, which it says raises the centre of gravity and adds spin. The 11-wood is all steel.
- A deeper face. The head is compact (142cc in the 7- and 9-wood, 135cc in the 11-wood) with a taller face than a typical fairway wood. Golf Digest notes the shape takes its cue from the old Great Big Bertha-era 7-wood. Callaway says the taller face also helps from the rough.
- Shorter and more upright. Callaway says the club is 0.75 inches shorter than a traditional fairway wood. The 7-wood plays at 41.5 inches with a 60.5° lie; Golf Digest reports the lie is about 2.5° more upright than standard.
- Step Sole. A stepped sole with camber on the leading edge, which Callaway says reduces turf drag for cleaner strikes.
The headline claim, as reported by Golf Digest and MyGolfSpy, is 500–800rpm more spin than the standard Quantum 7-wood. MyGolfSpy also reports Callaway claims roughly 50% tighter dispersion. Both figures are Callaway’s own and have not been independently measured.
Golf Monthly’s test: about 1,000rpm more
Golf Monthly has already put the club through a review in the UK. Its tester reported roughly 1,000rpm more spin than comparable long irons, a very high flight and strong stopping power on approach shots. MyGolfSpy puts it at around four yards shorter than an equivalent standard 7-wood or hybrid.
Golf Digest and Golf Post both report that the Mini Spinner has become the best-selling fairway wood in Japan since it launched there earlier in 2026.
Golfers who can’t hold greens from 170 yards
We think the Mini Spinner makes most sense for these golfers:
- Players who can’t hold greens from 170–200 yards. If your long irons and hybrids come in low and run, a high-spinning 7- or 9-wood is a sensible alternative.
- Firm-course golfers. Links, heathland in a dry summer, or anywhere the ball releases a long way after landing.
It is less obvious for high-speed players who already generate plenty of spin with a normal 7-wood. For them, extra spin can mean ballooning and lost distance, especially into the wind.
Shorter, fixed and right-handed only
- No adjustability. The hosel is fixed, so loft and lie can’t be tweaked with a wrench. Getting fitted matters more.
- Limited options. Callaway’s US site lists it as right-handed only, with a single stock shaft: the Project X Denali Frost Silver Mini Spinner 60 in regular flex, with a Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip. Custom options may vary by market.
- Lofts differ by market. The 7-wood (21°), 9-wood (24°) and 11-wood (27°) are listed in the US. UK coverage lists only the 7- and 9-wood.
Against the standard Quantum, a hybrid and a long iron
Next to Callaway’s standard Quantum fairway, the Mini Spinner costs the same but does a different job: the regular model is the one to pick if you want distance off the deck. Against a hybrid, the Mini Spinner should launch higher and land softer, while a hybrid tends to be more versatile from tight lies and around the green. Against a long iron, it is far more forgiving for most club golfers, at the cost of the lower, penetrating flight some better players prefer in wind.
If your long approaches run off the back of greens, we’d book a fitting for the Mini Spinner; Golf Monthly’s test found the extra spin Callaway promises.
Price and availability
The Quantum Mini Spinner went on sale in the US and UK on 14 August 2026. It is also sold through golf retailers, and Callaway lists it at £359 on its UK site and $379.99 on its US site.
