The Head Pro does not ask you to create an account and we never sell personal data. This page explains exactly what we record when you visit, why, and how you stay in control.
In short
- Every visit is counted without cookies: the page, the time, the site that sent you and the type of device, browser and operating system. No IP addresses or identifiers are stored.
- If you accept, we also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies and gives us a fuller picture, such as country, returning visits and time on page. You can change your mind at any time.
- If you sign up for the newsletter we keep your email address to send it to you.
- We do not use advertising trackers such as the Facebook Pixel.
Who is responsible
The Head Pro (www.theheadpro.com), published by Pétur Örn Johnson in Iceland, is the controller for the processing described here. Questions and requests: hello@theheadpro.com. We follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as applied in Iceland by Act No. 90/2018, and the Icelandic Electronic Communications Act No. 70/2022, which covers cookies.
Cookies and Google Analytics
On your first visit we ask whether you accept Google Analytics. Nothing is sent to Google and no analytics cookies are set until you click “Accept”. If you click “Decline” the site works exactly the same.
If you accept, Google Analytics records things such as the pages you view and for how long, where you came from, clicks on links to other sites, how far you scroll, searches on the site, your approximate country and city (estimated from your IP address), language, device type, browser, operating system, screen size and whether you have visited before. Google Analytics does not store IP addresses. We use this only to understand what readers want and how the site is used.
- Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time under Cookie settings (also at the bottom of every page). Measurement then stops and the Google Analytics cookies are deleted.
- Cookies:
_gaand_ga_*, which tell browsers apart with a random number and last up to 2 years. Your choice itself is stored in your browser for 12 months, after which we ask again. - Processor: Google Ireland Limited processes the data for us under a data processing agreement (Google Ads Data Processing Terms). Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States, which is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- Retention: detailed Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months and then deleted.
- No advertising is linked to this measurement, and Google may not use the data to target ads at you.
Cookieless visit counting
To know what is read, including by readers who decline Google Analytics, our own server records when a page is opened: the date and hour, the page address, the name of the site that linked to it (for example google.com) or a campaign name (utm tag in the link), and the category of device (mobile, tablet or desktop), browser, operating system and browser language.
No cookies, IP addresses or identifiers are recorded, so entries cannot be linked to a person or used to tell whether the same reader comes back. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used. The data is stored on our host’s server outside the public web folder and used only in summaries.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, we keep your email address and the date you signed up, and use them only to send you The Head Pro newsletter.
- Legal basis: your consent, given when you subscribe and withdrawable at any time.
- Processor: the newsletter is sent with Kit (ConvertKit LLC, United States), which stores your address for us. Kit records whether an email is opened and which links are clicked, so we can see what readers find useful.
- Unsubscribe: every email has an unsubscribe link, or write to hello@theheadpro.com and we will delete your address.
Server logs
Like almost every website, our hosting provider (hosting.com) keeps standard server logs, including IP address, time, the page requested and browser type. They are needed for security and to keep the site running and are kept for a limited time. We use them to stop abuse and fix technical problems, not to analyse individual readers.
Stored in your browser
A few settings are saved in your own browser (localStorage) and are not sent to us: your light or dark theme choice, and your answer about Google Analytics so we do not ask on every page. You can clear them at any time in your browser’s site data settings.
Affiliate links
Some links go to retailers through affiliate programmes. If you click one, the retailer or affiliate network may set cookies on their own site to record that you came from The Head Pro. Their own privacy policies apply there.
Photos and embedded content
Some photos are loaded from third-party image hosts such as Wikimedia Commons or brand press rooms. Those servers receive a normal web request when the image loads.
Some articles include videos or posts from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or X. The video players and posts are not loaded until you choose to play or view them (YouTube preview images come from YouTube’s image server). When you do, content is loaded from that platform (YouTube videos use its privacy-enhanced mode), and the platform may set cookies or collect data under its own privacy policy. Google Analytics is loaded from googletagmanager.com, but only if you have accepted it.
Your rights
You have the right to know what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing based on legitimate interest and to withdraw consent. Write to hello@theheadpro.com and we will reply within a month. The cookieless count contains no identifiers, so we cannot find entries relating to you there. You can also complain to the Icelandic Data Protection Authority, Persónuvernd, or the data protection authority where you live.
Changes
If we change how data is handled we will update this page and the date at the top first.
