First look

Ram FX1000 first look: a forged titanium driver for £99.99

Ram's new FX1000 driver costs £30 more than its alloy XDC and £50 less than the made-to-order FXTEC. Four fairway woods and two hybrids launch alongside it, and the 19° 3-hybrid has the same loft as the 5-wood.

Ram Golf now sells three men’s drivers on its UK website, and the new FX1000 sits in the middle at £99.99. The XDC below it costs £69.99, has an alloy head and comes in 10.5° and 12° only. The FX1000 adds a 9° option and a 460cc head that Ram describes as forged 6A-4V titanium, with the face, crown and sole all forged. For £149.99 the FXTEC is built to order, with the length set anywhere from 43in to 46in in quarter-inch steps, a choice of four flexes and three grip sizes.

Ram announced the FX1000 in mid-October alongside four fairway woods and two hybrids, according to Golf Business News. The driver is 45in long with a 58° lie and a swing weight of D1, and it comes with a headcover and a US Composites graphite shaft in regular, stiff or senior flex. Ram does not name the shaft model or its weight, and the product page does not mention an adjustable hosel or movable weights.

How the earlier £79.99 FX driver was reviewed

No independent test of the FX1000 had been published by 21 October, and its product page had no customer reviews. The nearest evidence is National Club Golfer’s review of Ram’s earlier FX driver, published in December 2024, when the driver had an RRP of £79.99. The tester gave it 4.5 out of 5 and called it “a really pleasant surprise”, reporting carries “up above 250” in testing. The review’s one listed drawback was that no headcover came in the box, and the tester also called the shaft cheap. The FX1000 has a different head, and it does come with a headcover.

Lofts and lengths across the range

Club Loft Length Lie Price
Driver 9°, 10.5°, 12° 45in 58° £99.99
3-wood 15° 43in 58° £69.99
5-wood 19° 42in 59° £69.99
7-wood 23° 41.5in 60° £69.99
9-wood 27° 41in 61° £69.99
3-hybrid 19° 40.5in 58° £64.99
4-hybrid 21° 40in 59° £64.99

The 3-hybrid has the same 19° loft as the 5-wood and is 1.5in shorter, so most golfers would carry one or the other. The 4-hybrid, at 21°, falls between the 5-wood and the 7-wood.

All six heads are 17-4 stainless steel with a fixed weight at the back, which Ram says gives “a lower, deeper centre of gravity” to help the ball launch. The shafts differ: the fairway wood page lists a regular-flex US Composites graphite shaft, while the hybrid page lists a “US COMPOSITES Steel Shaft” and makes no mention of graphite. Golfers who want graphite throughout should check with Ram before ordering the hybrids.

A golfer replacing long irons with lofted woods would pay £139.98 for the 23° 7-wood and the 27° 9-wood.

Bundles and where to buy

The Driver and Wood Set, with the driver, 3-wood and 5-wood, costs £199.99, which is £39.98 less than buying the three separately. The Hybrid Set of the 3- and 4-hybrids is £119.99, a saving of £9.99.

Every FX1000 listing on Ram’s site is for right-handed men’s clubs. Golf Business News gives no other stockists and points readers to ramgolf.co.uk, which offers free delivery on orders over £20, a 30-day returns guarantee and a 12-month warranty. Left-handed golfers can buy the XDC driver at £69.99 from the same site.
