Lipsky finishes Baycurrent Classic with new caddie after reported split

Darren Woolard carried David Lipsky's bag for 54 holes in Japan. A source told Golfweek the split was acrimonious; neither man has commented.

David Lipsky teed off in the final round of the Baycurrent Classic at Yokohama Country Club on Sunday with a new caddie on the bag. PGA TOUR officials confirmed the change to Golfweek, which first reported that Lipsky and veteran caddie Darren Woolard had parted company during the week.

Officials have confirmed only that Woolard caddied for the first three rounds and someone else for the fourth. A source told Golfweek the split was acrimonious and that Woolard had told Lipsky to find someone else for Sunday. Reports have suggested the stand-in was Lipsky’s trainer, but his identity has not been confirmed. Neither Lipsky nor Woolard has commented publicly, and no reason for the split has been given.

Woolard has previously caddied for Scott Piercy, Taylor Montgomery, K.H. Lee and the late Jarrod Lyle.

Lipsky began on the 10th tee and bogeyed four of his first five holes, then came home in a bogey-free 31 for a 70. He finished tied 54th on −3 (66-72-73-70), 13 shots behind the winner, Michael Brennan, and earned US$18,000.

Lipsky, 38, was outright second behind Matt Fitzpatrick at the Valspar Championship in March and has made 12 cuts in 20 starts this season. According to Golf Channel, he was 87th in the FedExCup Fall standings. The top 100 at the end of the Fall keep full cards for 2027, so he has some margin, but he now needs a caddie for the rest of that race.

It is also the second month running that a player has finished a Tour event without the caddie he started with. At the Biltmore Championship in September, Alejandro Tosti’s caddie, Cliff Ellis, walked off during the ninth hole of the first round, and Tosti had to finish with a volunteer on the bag.
