Jackson Koivun joins Brooks Koepka at TGL's Motor City Golf Club

The 21-year-old 3M Open winner and unbeaten Presidents Cup rookie is the second signing for TGL's Detroit expansion team, which debuts when season three starts on 27 December.

Jackson Koivun has joined Motor City Golf Club, the Detroit expansion franchise led by Brooks Koepka, for TGL’s third season. The team announced the signing on Monday, pairing a five-time major champion with a 21-year-old who has been a professional for only a few months.

Koivun was the world’s top-ranked amateur at Auburn, where he helped the Tigers win NCAA team titles in 2024 and 2026 and won three SEC individual titles, according to Field Level Media. He won the 3M Open in July, only his third start as a professional, and last month went unbeaten (2-0-1) on his Presidents Cup debut at Medinah as the Americans won the cup. Field Level Media reports that his rookie earnings passed $2 million after a tie for fifth at the Biltmore Championship in September.

In announcing the signing, Koivun pointed to team golf as the thread running through his best moments, from national titles at Auburn to the Presidents Cup. He also said TGL “brings new fans and an arena experience to golf”, according to Yahoo Sports.

Motor City is TGL’s first expansion team. It plays its first match when the league’s third season opens in Palm Beach Gardens on 27 December, as we reported last week, and the rest of its four-man roster has not yet been announced. The league, founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, has just renewed its broadcast deal with ESPN. Its venue, the SoFi Center, seats around 1,500, and Golf.com argues that signing Koivun shows TGL can now attract the next generation of stars rather than relying only on its founding names.

TGL runs into the early weeks of the PGA TOUR season, Koivun’s first full year as a pro. With a guaranteed card, he will have to fit the arena matches around the tour events that count most.
