Golf Saudi cuts women's series to one $4m LPGA-LET event in London
The five-event PIF Global Series ends this year. In its place comes The Championship, a $4 million event in London co-sanctioned by the LPGA and LET from July 2027, plus backing for the LET Order of Merit.
Golf Saudi announced on Monday that its PIF Global Series will end after this season and that from 2027 its tournament investment will go into a single event, The Championship, a $4 million tournament in London that will be co-sanctioned by the LPGA and the Ladies European Tour.
- The Championship will be played on 22–25 July 2027. A venue has not yet been named.
- The event is the successor to the London tournament Golf Saudi has run since 2021. This year’s edition, played as the PIF London Championship earlier this month, was won by 17-year-old Canadian Anna Huang, according to Field Level Media.
- Golf Saudi has also agreed a multi-year partnership with the LET Order of Merit, the season-long ranking that decides Europe’s No. 1 and pays end-of-season bonuses.
- The PIF Global Series will have staged 29 tournaments across three continents by the end of 2026.
Field Level Media reports that the series is shrinking from five events and $15 million in prize money to one event worth $4 million. On the LET, the Saudi-backed events have been among the richest on the schedule since 2021.
The LPGA’s summer changes too. Golf Digest reports that the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open is not on the LPGA’s 2027 schedule, with The Championship taking a slot in the European swing. The LPGA has not yet published its full 2027 calendar.
This is the second LPGA event backed directly by Golf Saudi. The first, the Aramco Championship at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas in April, also carried a $4 million purse and was won by Lauren Coughlin, Golf Digest reports.
The Public Investment Fund is ending its funding of LIV Golf after this season, and LIV is now working through Chapter 11 bankruptcy, as we reported last week.
Golf Saudi framed the change around growing the game at home. It says the kingdom has around 4,500 registered golfers and wants more than 30,000 within five years, and that more than a third of a 4,000-strong waiting list for lessons are women.
We think the LPGA does well here, with a well-funded, co-sanctioned event in a major city during the busiest stretch of its summer. The LET gets season-long support through the Order of Merit, but going from five Saudi-funded tournaments to one leaves holes in a schedule that has relied on them.
