LPGA takes the LOTTE Championship to Kapalua's Plantation Course
The LPGA's Hawaii event moves to Maui in 2027, bringing tour golf back to the Plantation Course after the PGA TOUR's drought-hit exit from the islands.
The LPGA announced on Monday that the LOTTE Championship will move to the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort on Maui from 2027, two years after the PGA TOUR last played there.
The news came a day after Jeeno Thitikul won this year’s edition at Hoakalei Country Club on Oahu, which has hosted the event for the past five years.
The 2027 LOTTE Championship will carry a $3 million purse and form part of a two-event Hawaii swing with the new Nanea Cup in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island, according to Field Level Media. Yahoo Sports reports that it will follow the LPGA’s spring Asia swing rather than open the season. LPGA commissioner Craig Kessler said “venues with deep-rooted heritage like Kapalua are exactly what we look for”. Allisen Corpuz, the Hawaii-born U.S. Women’s Open champion, said that going to the LOTTE Championship as a child was always a highlight.
The PGA TOUR played the Plantation Course from 1999 to 2025, most recently as The Sentry, with a winners-only field opening its season. The 2026 edition was cancelled because of drought and water restrictions in West Maui after the 2023 wildfires, and a dispute over the area’s water system. In April the PGA TOUR said it would leave Hawaii altogether in 2027, ending a presence on the islands that stretched back more than half a century.
The course reopened to the public in November 2025, and Yahoo Sports reports its fairways are green again. We think the LPGA has done well. It gets a course built for big hitters and trade winds, with long downhill par fives and sloping greens, that viewers already know from years of January television.
