PGA TOUR close to Visa deal worth high eight figures a year
Visa would become an official marketing partner in 2027 and one of several sponsors of the new Tour Championship, Sports Business Journal reports. Neither side has commented.
The PGA TOUR is close to a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Visa worth “in the high eight figures” a year, Sports Business Journal reported on Thursday, citing unnamed sources. Neither the tour nor Visa has commented, and nothing has been signed.
Under the reported terms, Visa would become an official marketing partner of the tour in 2027. From 2028 it would be one of several sponsors of the Tour Championship, which is due to become a match-play event. It would also take naming rights for three events in the Challenger Series, the second tier of the tour’s new structure. About 20 Challenger Series events are planned, according to Golfweek.
Golf Channel reports that the tour’s long-running partnership with Mastercard expires at the end of 2026, although Mastercard’s presenting sponsorship of the Arnold Palmer Invitational runs to 2028. Sports Business Journal put the figure level with, or above, what Visa pays FIFA and the International Olympic Committee. Golfweek reports it would be the largest deal signed under Brian Rolapp, the tour’s chief executive.
Some in the industry doubt the tour can sell Challenger Series titles when the best players will be in the 120-man Championship Series, Golfweek adds. The Championship Series schedule is expected next February; the Challenger Series schedule is due later in 2027.
