Sergio Garcia leaves LIV and will play the DP World Tour in 2027

Garcia will apply for membership in November and wants a place in Europe's Ryder Cup team at Adare Manor, but tour rules stop him joining Luke Donald's backroom staff.

Sergio Garcia will apply for DP World Tour membership when the tour opens its membership window in November, Golf Monthly reports. He confirmed on Instagram on Thursday that he has left LIV Golf. “Next season I’ll be playing on the DP World Tour,” he wrote, adding: “I’m also keeping my options open for a return to the PGA Tour.”

Garcia, 46, was the first player to ask the bankruptcy court in New Jersey to end his LIV contract, and the court released him earlier this month. He had captained Fireballs GC since LIV’s first event in London in June 2022.

He is not currently a DP World Tour member. He resigned in May 2023 and paid fines of about $1 million in 2024 to rejoin, in the hope of making the 2025 Ryder Cup team. Irish Golfer reported in October 2025 that he had played too few events that season to renew automatically. This year he played five DP World Tour events on invitations, finishing tied fourth at the Bahrain Championship and tied 14th at the Amgen Irish Open, according to Golf Monthly. He is seventh on the tour’s Career Money List, which Golf Monthly says could help him gain entries.

His stated aim is a place in Europe’s team at Adare Manor in September 2027. “Another goal is to make that Ryder Cup team, and to be an asset to the guys in whatever capacity that may be,” he wrote. CBS Sports reports that he has told the captain, Luke Donald, he wants to help. The May 2023 resignation rules him out as a captain or vice-captain, so any role would have to be as one of the 12 players. Garcia holds the Ryder Cup points record, 28.5 from 10 appearances, the last of them at Whistling Straits in 2021.

The DP World Tour has said it will not admit players signed to LIV 2.0 as members in 2027. Garcia’s last PGA TOUR start was the Wells Fargo Championship in May 2022, and Golf Monthly reports he would have to serve a 12-month suspension before he could return there.
