Sugiura's 58 still leaves him six points short of a PGA TOUR card
Yuta Sugiura's 12-under 58 in Oklahoma was only the fourth sub-59 round in Korn Ferry Tour history. It still leaves him 21st on the points list, one place from a card, with one event to go.
Yuta Sugiura shot 58 on Saturday, becoming only the fourth player to break 59 on the Korn Ferry Tour. He still goes into this week’s season finale exactly where he started last week: 21st on the points list, one spot outside the top 20 who earn PGA TOUR cards for 2027.
The 12-under round came on day three of the Compliance Solutions Championship in Owasso, Oklahoma, at The Patriot Golf Club. Sugiura made 11 birdies, an eagle and one bogey, going out in 29 and coming home in 29, according to Golf Channel. He started on the 10th, birdied his first two holes, then eagled the par-five 1st to reach eight under for the day. His only bogey came at the 2nd, and he then made four birdies in a row from the 5th to the 8th.
It was the 19th sub-60 round in Korn Ferry Tour history. Only Stephan Jaeger (58, 2016), Frankie Capan (58, 2024) and Cristobal del Solar, whose 57 in 2024 remains the tour record, had gone lower than 59 before him.
William Sides shot a bogey-free 60, Ross Steelman also shot 60 and Carson Young added a 61 on what a report on Yahoo Sports called the lowest-scoring day in the tour’s history. Sides went on to lose a four-hole playoff to Sandy Scott on Sunday (our winner report).
The 58 lifted Sugiura to 17 under after 54 holes and into contention, but he could not make another big move on Sunday. The updated Korn Ferry Tour points list has him on 898.342 points, just under six points behind Cole Hammer in 20th (904.152). Austin Hitt, who dropped to 22nd, is less than seven points behind Sugiura. Scott (2,176.634 points) and Steelman (2,153.371) are already assured of their cards and are fighting to finish the season as No. 1.
The season ends with the Korn Ferry Tour Championship in Glen Allen, Virginia, at The Federal Club, from 8 to 11 October.
