Six walking golf bags worth carrying this autumn, from $185 to $449

Six carry and stand bags from Jones, Vessel, Sunday Golf and Stitch, from a featherweight Sunday bag to a fully loaded new stand bag.

These six bags come from four independent American bag makers and run roughly from the lightest to the most loaded: Vessel’s Sunday Carry at 1.85lb at one end, its 7.6lb Player VI at the other. Prices are in US dollars, taken from the makers’ websites at the time of writing. Shipping, duties and availability for the UK and Europe differ by brand, so check at checkout.

Count your clubs and layers first

A Sunday bag is fine for nine holes after work with seven clubs and a jumper, but it won’t swallow a full waterproof suit. If you play 18 in changeable weather, you want a stand, a double strap and a pocket big enough for a rain jacket.

Vessel Sunday Carry, $199

Vessel lists the body at 1.85lb, plus 0.45lb for the padded strap, the lowest listed weight in this edit. It says the bag still holds all 14 clubs in a 7.5-inch, two-way, velour-lined top. The shell is 420D water-resistant polyester with leather zip pulls and handles, and a removable support rod gives it some shape in the bag rack.

Vessel says it folds into itself as a compact case, which makes it a good choice for golfers who keep a bag in the car boot or travel with a few clubs. There’s a dedicated ball pocket and a velour-lined valuables pocket, but only two external pockets in all, so this is a bag for dry days and minimal kit. It comes in Black or Olive.

Original Jones Bag, $185

The bag that started Jones Sports Co. in 1971, and still the cheapest bag in this edit. It is deliberately simple: an unstructured body, a single retro strap, a three-way divider, three pockets and water-resistant nylon. Jones lists it at 7 x 7 x 36 inches and says it holds 14 clubs.

There’s no stand, so you’ll be laying it on the grass, and there’s no room for a big waterproof. Navy/White and Navy/Red/White are $185; the Kodiak version in Jones’s heritage finish is listed at $220.

Sunday Golf El Camino, $200

The El Camino sits between a Sunday bag and a full stand bag. Sunday Golf lists it at 3.9lb and 34 inches tall, with a four-way top that fits 10 to 12 clubs depending on grip size. You get a double strap, a dual-flex stand, a rain hood, water-resistant zips, a velour-lined valuables pocket and an insulated “Frosty” pocket for a drink.

The 10-to-12-club top rules it out if you carry a full 14. Cool Gray was listed at $200, reduced from $210, when we checked; the new Evergreen colour is on pre-order, with shipping from early November.

Stitch SL2 Air Walker, $298

Stitch lists the SL2 at 4lb and makes it from its own Touring Fabric, which the brand says is as strong as leather but lighter and more water-resistant. The strap switches between single and double, and there’s a four-way divider, a full-length apparel pocket for a waterproof, a ball pocket, a felt-lined valuables pocket and an insulated drinks pocket. The zips are sealed and the rain hood attaches to the bag.

The finish has gunmetal hardware and welded branding, and there’s a personalisation ingot on the front. Colours include Morning Fog, Dark Forest, Midnight, Onyx and Racing Red. Stitch was also running a sitewide autumn promotion at the time of writing.

Jones Trouper (2026), $395

Our pick for style, and the bag in the photo above. The 2026 Trouper belongs to Jones’s Heritage Collection, with the classic Jones shape in deluxe vegan leather. Jones says the new model has a redesigned, reinforced stand and new ergonomic zips. The listed weight is 5.8lb, and you get an 11 x 7-inch top with a five-way divider (three full-length), dual shoulder straps and six pockets, including an insulated cooler pocket and a fleece-lined valuables pocket.

It comes in Ecru, Onyx/Kodiak or Evergreen/Kodiak. It’s heavier than the Stitch and dearer than the El Camino, and the light-coloured vegan leather will show autumn mud.

Vessel Player VI Stand, $449

The newest bag here. Vessel calls the Player VI the biggest step forward its Player Series has taken, with a redesigned top that gives each club more room, a wider base to keep clubs apart, and a new Axis-Lock pocket for a rangefinder. It keeps Vessel’s patented Rotator Stand and the EQ2 double strap, which the brand says adapts to your movement to balance the load across both shoulders.

This is a bag for golfers who carry everything: ten exterior and eight interior pockets, a large garment pocket, insulated magnetic bottle pockets, an AirTag pocket, carbon-fibre legs and a cart-strap pass-through for days when you ride. The trade-off is weight. Vessel lists 7.4lb for the six-way top and 7.6lb for the 14-way, so it’s the heaviest bag in this edit by some distance. At launch it is listed in Black.

Which bag for which round

For quick nines and short courses, the Vessel Sunday Carry is the smartest light option, and the Original Jones is the classic at the lowest price. For most walking golfers who play 18, the Stitch SL2 hits the best balance of weight, weatherproofing and storage. The Jones Trouper is the one to buy for looks, and the Vessel Player VI is for the golfer who wants every pocket and doesn’t mind the extra weight.
