Butterfield Bermuda Championship 2026: wind and the top-100 line

Adam Schenk won at −12 last year, the highest winning score in seven editions. Lee Hodges is exactly 100th in the FedExCup Fall, and four players ranked between 96th and 103rd are also in the field.

Twelve under par won the Butterfield Bermuda Championship last year, the highest winning score in the event’s seven editions. The six previous champions were between −15 and −24. Gusts reached 40 mph in the final round, and the field averaged 73.113 that day, according to the PGA TOUR. Adam Schenk, in his 243rd start on the tour, closed with a level-par 71 and won by one from Chandler Phillips.

The forecast for this week (22–25 October) is for sustained winds of up to 25 mph until Saturday and possibly stronger on Sunday, when rain is likely, according to the PGA TOUR. Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton plays as a par 71 of 6,828 yards, short for the tour but the longest course on the island. The Bermudagrass greens are kept to about 10.5 on the Stimpmeter so that the wind doesn’t move balls at rest. The four par 3s averaged 3.20 last year, among the hardest on the tour.

Hodges, Phillips and Greyserman around 100th

This is the fourth of eight FedExCup Fall events. The top 100 in the standings after The RSM Classic keep full cards for 2027, and the PGA TOUR says status down to 150th is also at stake. Five players ranked between 96th and 103rd are in the field:

FedExCup Fall rank Player Thursday (GMT)
96 Taylor Pendrith 15:27, 10th tee
98 Chandler Phillips 10:35, 10th tee
99 Max Greyserman 16:11, 1st tee
100 Lee Hodges 10:46, 1st tee
103 Seamus Power 15:16, 1st tee

Pendrith shares the course record, a 61 in the second round in 2021. Power won here in 2022. Lucas Glover, 108th, needs about a top-20 finish to move inside the top 100, according to the PGA TOUR’s projections.

Schenk would be the first player to defend the title, but he is 163rd in the standings and has made three cuts in his last ten starts, with no top-20 finish.

Ben James and Corey Conners head the field

Ben James is the bookmakers’ favourite. The rookie has finished in the top five in each of his last three starts and in four of his last six, but has not won on the PGA TOUR. Corey Conners, world No. 61, is the highest-ranked player in the 120-man field. Austin Smotherman, who won the Bank of Utah Championship this month, is the highest-placed player in the field in the FedExCup Fall standings. The purse is US$6 million, with 500 FedExCup points for the winner.

Past champions Brendon Todd (2019) and Camilo Villegas (2023), who share the 72-hole record of 260, are playing. The sponsor invitations include Miles Russell, 17, the world amateur No. 6, and Mason Howell, the 2025 US Amateur champion. Nick Jones and Camiko Smith are the two Bermudians in the field.
