Winner report
Phatlum wins a fourth Women's Indian Open, 18 years after her first
Pornanong Phatlum closed with a bogey-free 65 to win by four on −11 at DLF. Vani Kapoor, level with nine to play on her home course, dropped three shots between the 10th and 13th.
“This year, I almost retired from professional golf,” Pornanong Phatlum said on Sunday, after winning the Hero Women’s Indian Open for the fourth time. She shot a bogey-free 65 on the Gary Player Course at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram and finished on −11, four clear of Vani Kapoor. Her first three wins, in 2008, 2009 and 2012, came on the club’s other course, the Arnold Palmer. No one else has won the event four times.
Phatlum, who turns 37 on 4 December, made nine cuts in 15 LPGA Tour starts in 2025. Her best finish this year before Gurugram was a tie for 16th at the Kroger Queen City Championship in May. Sunday’s win is her first Ladies European Tour title since the 2013 Omega Dubai Ladies Masters. She has accepted LET membership for next season. The purse was US$500,000; the tour had not published the winner’s share at the time of publication.
Phatlum began the final round on −4, a shot behind Kapoor, and the two of them were level on −9 at the turn. Kapoor chipped in from the back of the 1st green for birdie and made four birdies in her first five holes; Phatlum birdied the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 8th and 9th. Kapoor’s tee shot at the 10th took a bad kick, and she made her first bogey of the round. She got it back at the 11th, then bogeyed the 12th and 13th. Phatlum holed birdie putts at the 15th and 16th and parred in.
“Every putt on the front nine dropped in the hole,” Phatlum said.
Kapoor, who plays out of DLF, shot 70 for −7. Golf Today reports that it is her best finish on the Ladies European Tour and lifts her to 69th on the Order of Merit. Shannon Tan, the defending champion, was third on −4 while protecting a sore wrist. Pranavi Urs, the Asian Games champion, played the last day with a stomach illness, finished with two bogeys and shared fourth on −3. “The biggest obstacle was my stomach,” she said. Tvesa Malik was seventh, the third Indian player in the top ten.
