Yamashita first to retain the Maybank Championship
Miyu Yamashita closed with a 68 in Kuala Lumpur to finish on −22, two clear of Yan Liu, for her third LPGA Tour win of 2026 and $450,000.
Miyu Yamashita became the first player to win the Maybank Championship twice, closing with a 68 at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club on Sunday to finish on −22, two shots ahead of Yan Liu. The tournament was first played in 2023; Céline Boutier and Ruoning Yin won the first two editions, and Yamashita took the 2025 title in a three-way play-off.
This time she needed no extra holes. Yamashita had led since the second round and started Sunday on 198, two ahead of Liu and Pauline Roussin-Bouchard. Liu, who shot 63 on Saturday, birdied the 2nd and, after Yamashita’s birdie at the 3rd, drew level with an eagle from about three metres at the par-5 4th, Herald Business reported. Yamashita went back in front with a birdie at the 5th, birdied the 8th, dropped her only shot of the day at the 9th and birdied the par-3 11th. Liu bogeyed the 14th.
At the par-5 18th Liu’s eagle putt from about six metres, which would have drawn her level, finished short and she made birdie. Yamashita then holed an uphill putt of about three metres for a birdie of her own.
The win is worth $450,000 from a $3 million purse. It is Yamashita’s third LPGA Tour title of the season, after a play-off win at the Meijer LPGA Classic in June and a nine-shot win at the CPKC Women’s Open in August. She has five in all, including the 2025 AIG Women’s Open.
Marisa Tojai, a 17-year-old amateur from Thailand, shot 67 to share third with Roussin-Bouchard on −19. At the 16th, a 332-yard par 4 and the LPGA’s designated risk-reward hole, she found water and made double bogey. Robyn Choi was fifth on −17, and Achiraya Sriwong’s 65 was the best final round among the top ten.
